Facebook Ads vs. Google Adwords

If you want to reach new customers, Google’s search network or Facebook’s news feeds are the places to go. Consider this: Facebook currently has 2.3 billion monthly active users, making it a hotbed of user activity. Google Ads reaches billions of people every day through search, email and other online activities.

But when it comes to allocating your advertising budget, you have to make a decision about which platform to choose: Google ads or Facebook ads?

How do you make the right choice for your business? Should you invest in both? Well, that’s what we’re here to find out.

What are the differences between Google AdWords and Facebook ads?

Before we look at the various strengths and features of Google AdWords and Facebook Ads, it’s important to understand the main difference between the two ad platforms.

Google AdWords: Paid and Organic Search

Google AdWords is the world’s largest and most popular PPC advertising platform. AdWords is so widely used that it has become synonymous with the term ” Paid and Organic Search”. The two terms are used interchangeably, even though other platforms like Bing Ads work in a similar way.

Paid search focuses on targeted keyword searches and the use of text-based ads. Advertisers using AdWords bid on keywords – specific words and phrases included in search queries entered by Google users – in hopes that their ads will appear alongside search results for those queries. Each time a user clicks on an ad, the advertiser is charged a certain amount of money, hence the name “pay-per-click advertising.” PPC bidding and bid optimization is a complex topic that is beyond the scope of this guide, but essentially users are paying for the potential to find new customers based on the keywords and search terms they enter into Google.

Facebook Ads: Paid social

Facebook advertising is a prime example of what is called “paid social,” or the practice of advertising on social networks. With the highest number of monthly active users of any social network in the world, Facebook has become an extremely competitive and potentially lucrative element of many companies’ digital advertising strategies.
